Periodontist and implantologist
Prof. Howard Gluckman specialises in advanced reconstruction, dental implants and highly aesthetic cases — from bone augmentation to immediate placement with immediate loading. His approach is consistently case-driven.
He directs the Implant and Aesthetic Academy in Cape Town, for more than 15 years the only training centre of its kind in South Africa. As an author and an internationally sought-after speaker he has shaped the socket shield and PET shield techniques: part of the root stays in place as a shield and supports the buccal plate, instead of leaving it to itself after the extraction.

The root stays, as a shield.
The double-ended holder guides the PET shield blade to the root fragment under control; both ends take a blade, so there is no instrument change during the procedure. The blades come side-specific, for the right and for the left side of the jaw.
