About Ustomed

Instrument making in Tuttlingen

Passion is what drives us to build instruments that make a difference — designed, tested and shipped by the manufacturer itself.

Our history
1974 founded in Tuttlingen by Ulrich Storz
This is USTOMED

At the heart of medical technology

USTOMED develops, designs, manufactures and supplies instruments for dentists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons — from Tuttlingen, the most important medical technology cluster in the world.

You draw on decades of experience and deep know-how in instrument reprocessing, sterilisation and organisation — from a single probe to a fully loaded tray.

Everything under one roof

Since 2014 a single building has held all of USTOMED together: development, administration, logistics and a training centre with internationally known speakers.

Innovation

A hand on the pulse, always

Working closely with leading clinicians, universities and opinion leaders lets us see new methods and standards coming earlier — and build answers to them faster.

The result is a cross-disciplinary range of many thousand dental instruments — for dentists as much as for oral and maxillofacial surgeons, implantologists and periodontists. Many of our innovations are now fixtures of everyday dentistry.

Straight from the maker.
No detours.

Talking to us directly is what keeps your request moving. For decades, most of our new customers have arrived on the recommendation of a colleague.

Quality

Competence in instruments

Quality you can see and feel is a given here. As early as 1995 we had every department certified to DIN ISO 9001 and DIN EN 46001.

Continuous checks and surveillance audits keep us inside DIN EN ISO 13485. Since 2018 USTOMED has also been audited under the international MDSAP standard — recognised in Australia, the USA, Canada and Japan.

A family tradition

It runs in the family

Master cutler Adam Kremm was forging knives as early as 1843. In 1890 Ulrich Storz's grandfather, Otto Storz-Buess, widened the workshop to surgical and dental instruments and helped found the Tuttlingen guild of surgical instrument makers.

Frequently asked questions

Where are USTOMED products made?

Most of our range comes from Tuttlingen, the most important medical technology cluster in the world: development, manufacturing, quality assurance, administration, logistics and the training centre have all sat under one roof there since 2014. There are also products where at least one part is made abroad — in Italy, for example. If you need to know the origin of a particular product, just ask: we will tell you for that product rather than make a blanket claim.

Can I order directly from USTOMED?

Yes. Germany, Austria and Switzerland are supplied directly through this shop — with no middlemen. Everywhere else, our authorised distributors handle delivery; the distributor page shows who covers your country.

Which standards is USTOMED certified to?

DIN EN ISO 13485 for medical devices, across every department and without a break since 1995. Since 2018 USTOMED has also been audited under the Medical Device Single Audit Program (MDSAP), recognised in Australia, the USA, Canada and Japan. Both certificates are on this page as PDFs.

How long has USTOMED existed?

USTOMED was founded in 1974 by Ulrich Storz. The family tradition in instrument making goes back to 1843, when master cutler Adam Kremm began forging knives in Tuttlingen.

I am opening a practice — does USTOMED help with the first equipment?

Yes. More than 3,500 practices have been equipped with USTOMED instruments. We walk you through it from the first instrument list to reprocessing and a practice ready to work — personally, with one named contact.
